Get to Know Sheridan

Sheridan Chu is a proud native New Yorker, raised in Mariners Harbor on Staten Island by a loving, hardworking middle-class family. As the son of immigrant parents, he fondly recalls running around his mother’s small travel agency while his father worked diligently as an accountant.

Sheridan’s journey took him through New York City public schools, Wagner College, and St. John’s University School of Law, each step shaping his deep connection to the city he calls home.

For over a decade, Sheridan served as a Court Attorney in several criminal courts across the five boroughs, including Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. In this role, Sheridan became a trusted advisor to judges, offering counsel on legal matters, sentencing recommendations, and helping foster productive negotiations between prosecutors and defense attorneys. He worked tirelessly to mediate housing disputes with NYCHA tenants, preventing evictions, securing repairs, and helping arrange fair payment plans. His commitment to protecting vulnerable tenants and families made a lasting impact across the city—from Staten Island to Queens, where he now resides.

Outside of the courtroom, Sheridan has shown his devotion to his community through years of public service. Since 2017, he has served as a board member of the Chinese-American Planning Council and its Home Attendant Program, advocating for the well-being of the home care workforce and their clients.

Now in private practice, Sheridan focuses on tenant rights and criminal defense, while remaining actively involved in various bar associations, including the Asian American Bar Association of New York, Queens County Bar Association, Queens County Women’s Bar Association, New York State Defenders Association, and the New York State Bar Association.

Sheridan lives in Forest Hills with his wife and two young boys, and he’s deeply committed to raising his family in the same city where he grew up, working hard to contribute to the ongoing success and improvement of his local community. He’s also a former member of Queens Community Board 6, serving for 6 years, and is currently a County Committee Member for the Queens Democratic Party.

With a proven record of hard work, legal expertise, and an unwavering commitment to justice, Sheridan is ready to bring his experience, dedication, and heart to the “People’s Court.”
